On Hire / Off Hire Bunker and Condition Survey

On hire / Off hire surveys have the purpose of determining the condition of a vessel at the time of delivery or re-delivery. The on/off hire bunker & condition surveys are most frequently required to be performed combined but we also perform either just on/off hire bunker survey or on/off hire condition survey separately. It is also common to be performed jointly with the other interested part, being one company appointed by Owners and other by Charterers.

During the condition survey we mainly focus on general condition of the vessel and specifically on cargo spaces, holds, hatch covers, cranes, verifying if there is any damage. In addition, we also check general condition of other areas of the ship, such as bridge equipment, engine room, life-saving equipment, fire-fighting equipment, radio communications station, main deck, maintenance of common areas, kitchen and provisions etc . The surveyor verifies that the ship certificates are valid.

The bunker survey is required in order to calculate the exact amount of bunkers on board at the time of vessel’s delivery/redelivery. Our surveyor carry out sounding of all bunkers tanks and performs corrections of soundings to vessel’s trim and heel to find out the volume in tanks. Than it is applied corrections for temperatures and specific gravity, in order to determine the actual quantity of bunkers on board at the time/place of survey. Our surveyor checks vessel’s consumption, as per perusal of engine log book and charter party speed and consumptions to establish the amount of bunkers remaining on board at Delivery/Redelivery time.
